Reflecting Upon Dr. King’s Legacy

In his short 39 years on earth, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr witnessed the all- encompassing darkness of injustice, and yet, was continuingly imbued by the Light of Destiny.

In his short 39 years on earth, he'd loved us so much as a people, that he would dedicate his entire life to fighting so valiantly on our behalf.

In his short 39 years on earth, he’d chosen purpose over power, right over might and freedom over finance.

In his short 39 years on earth, he’d chosen to embrace his capacity to Love over the treacherous tripwires of hatred.

In his short 39 years on earth, he possessed the emotional intelligence and sher boldness of heart to diagnose (& tried like hell to remedy) this great American Sickness.

THANK YOU for giving your life to protests and marches leading to jail cells and speeches, and by doing so, with your time here, you made an immeasurable difference.

THANK YOU for being a shining example, and not some foul and flawed excuse.

THANK YOU for being reflective of the very Best in us, our hearts, our spirits, in our potential as a people and a Nation.

THANK YOU for possessing a strain of Greatness which will never be unsurpassed.

Martin Luther King, Jr., The Measures of Man, 1959.

Man is man because he is free to operate within the framework of his destiny. He is free to deliberate, to make decisions, and to choose between alternatives. He is distinguished from animals by his freedom to do evil or to do good and to walk the high road of beauty or tread the low road of ugly degeneracy.”

Happy 82nd Birthday, Dr. King!

One Love.

I was 16 years old when Dr.King was killed,I use to sit glued to the TV or radio listening to his speeches and marches,I cried like a water fountain when he died and when I hear or read any of his speeches tears well up in me today.
Dr.King represented so much hope for a young buck like me in the 1960's and his death was the death for many of my generation.
Happy birthday sir!

I was 3 the day Dr. King was murdered, I don't remember him.

Interestingly enough I did point out to someone a few weeks back that Dr. King only lived to be 39 and someone attempted to argue me down that he was at least 50. It's amazing how time obscures some things.

How much might he have accomplished in his life had he lived a full and productive life throughout?

I was 7 when he was assasinated. I don't remember him as well, but what I know is what I've heard.
I intend to start reading his writings, to get the full measure of the man, outside of the sensationalized "holiday" feel. I want to know the trueness of this mighty, brave, philosophical, spiritual, flawed, handsome icon of a man.

He may have died young, but his life was full and complete and he accomplished much!!

His legacy lives on. It was really refreshing to see so many politicans, actors and common folk out doing good deeds on his birthday, it was such the humanitarian thing to do, yes we remember.
